This WAY HOMe

We are blessed to have a permanent home! Currently, we are renovating the building and grounds. Until we make the move, please join us for Sunday services at Harlan Rowe Middle School at 9:30 & 11 a.m.

We’re regularly updating our website to include the latest from our Building Advisory Committee. You can find the latest news here or through our monthly email newsletter, Discover Encounter. Send an email to sign up to receive the newsletter.

We’re also asking that you continue to pray for Encounter and what God would have us do in this space. There are vials of soil from the property available for you to pray over with the help of this Prayer Guide.

Building Advisory Committee Update - August 2019

The Building Team has been making progress in our planning process. We continue to meet with different contractors and respected church planners to gather their expert opinions. As excited as we all are to move in as quickly as possible, we understand this is a critical time to carefully weigh all options so we can best steward our resources and wisely plan for the years to come. We are hoping to finalize plans in the next couple of weeks. Once they are finalized, we will share the building vision with the church and contacting interested volunteers to come help with the renovations.

As I read and hear stories of other churches navigating building projects, it has reminded me of the importance to stay focused on the mission throughout the process. Pastor Rick Warren shared that in order to maintain a healthy church, we need to keep these four things in order:

The Purposes of God – We need to keep this at the forefront of all we do through this process, knowing that the space we create is a conduit for people to meet and grow in Him. Every decision should be funneled through the mission.

The People of God – Taking care of those who call Encounter their home so that we are not placing building desires above ministry needs. In addition, watching over the staff and folks who are actively working on the project making sure they stay strong – spiritually, emotionally and physically as they work on the front lines for the Kingdom.

The Programs of God – May we continue to minister to the community in powerful, effective and excellent ways. Let us use the building project as fuel to burn the flame hotter and build upon our outreach as we wait for a permanent home.

The Property of God – The church is built upon Christ and His people, not brick and mortar. Property is only a tool for growing our reach and strengthening our connection. May we be diligent in focusing on our relationship with God and others.

In summary, it reminded me that Loving God and Loving others is the prerequisite for everything else we do as a Body of Believers. When this is done well, our programs are more effective and our property assumes its rightful place as the conduit for sharing His love. When we keep these all aligned, the Spirit is able to move and bless His church.

On behalf of the entire Building Advisory Committee, we ask that you pray for wisdom in all our decisions as we seek to be good stewards of the resources God has given us. We’re looking forward to watching God work through His people as we create additional space and opportunity for the Love of Jesus Christ to be shared.

What we Have

God has led us to Freedom Road in Milan, where we have been blessed with a church building and the surrounding land that will not only serve our needs today, but for generations to come. We want the facility to be a source of light, hope and help in the community. We envision the building as a home for greater impact in God’s Kingdom, not the end goal itself. Over the next several months, we will be renovating the building to fit our unique needs.

The Challenge

Do we have obstacles in stepping into this pursuit? Absolutely! God has blessed us with a property with room to grow His vision. We’ve been saving diligently since 2013, and we were in a great position to make the purchase. But He’s not going to stop there; we need to room for the next generation. Our Family Ministry (for kids birth through high school) is doing amazing things in the lives of our kids. Our goal is to give them the room they need. The campaign goal remains at $500,000 over the next year and we’re a little over halfway there.

The Invitation

Pray boldly about: • how God can use you to see this vision accomplished;• what God wants to do in reaching those who don’t know him yet;• taking a big step of faith toward this God-sized vision which will change the landscape of our community
