A Month of Meals

At Encounter, we are blessing100 households in our Valley communities with a Month of Meals! There are many ways you can help: by nominating a family to receive the meals; by adopting a family; or by donating your time and talents to the effort.

We'll gather, as we always do, on Sunday, Nov. 18 and invite the families to join us for our 11 a.m. service at Rowe Middle School in Athens, Pa. After service, we'll be distributing our Month of Meals.

We are blessed at Encounter and can't wait to share those blessings with the community!

Please use one of the forms below to let us know how you would like to help.

Adopt a family

Individuals, a group or workplace can help with our – Adopt / Shop / Drop Program.

By adopting a family, you are supplying them with enough dry goods to stock their shelves for a month. These items are based on simple meals and will help alleviate the cost of food for the month.

You'll shop for the items on a list provided and organize them in boxes and bags we'll provide. Here’s the link to the Grocery List.

Drop off dates are Friday, Nov. 16 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 17 from 4-8 p.m at the Rowe Middle School. We'll have a team of people there to accept your donation.

Nominate a family

We are currently accepting nominations for families for 2018. If you would like to speak with us about receiving a Month of Meals, there will be someone at our Sayre church office (111 S. Elmer Ave., Second Floor) on select Thursday afternoons to speak with you. The office will be staffed 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. on the following Thursdays: Oct, 18 and 25; and Nov. 1, 8 and 15. Please use the form below to let us know about a family we can bless.

Help us coordinate and organize

We can always use another hand to help, whether it’s in the office with some administrative duties, collecting food on Nov. 16 and 17 or loading cars with groceries on Nov 18. Let us know how you would like to help. You can fill out the form below or text Melanie Sumner at (570) 423-1129.

Become a Community Partner

This year we feel led to also provide a $50 Aldi’s gift card to each family to purchase the perishable items they may need, but are difficult to collect because of lack of proper storage. We are seeking financial assistance from our local Corporate Partners to help fulfill this goal. If your business or employer is interested in joining with us, download our Community Partner letter for more information.
